Samrajyeshvara Temple, Lalita Ghat

There are hundreds of big and small temples in and around Varanasi dedicated to different deities. Many of these are significant not only for their exalted properties as they attract a large number of devotees from all directions, but they are also aesthetically remarkable for exquisite architectural and sculptural renderings. Some are profusely decorated with beautiful stone carvings and paintings. SAMRAJYESHVARA TEMPLE, LALITA GHAT (1843 CE) is a tantric temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Constructed on the lines of the famous Pashupatinatha Temple of Kathmandu, Nepal, this pagoda type shrine is locally known as the Nepali Temple and also Wooden Temple due to extensive use of wood brought from Nepal.
