Banaras Gallery of Jnana-Pravaha exhibits various aspects of culture and art of this ancient city. The wooden and clay toys along with the metal objects, which were once the flourishing handicraft industries of Banaras, are the main attractions. The colourful wooden toys of the city are known for its uniqueness. Unfortunately, due to unavailability of the required wood and disinterest of the younger generation, these traditions are counting their last days as the artisans can now be counted on fingertips.
The Gallery also displays the different aspects of the city like art, architecture, fairs-festivals and ‘Banarasi’ lifestyle through photographs. The adjoining Handicraft Atelier of the Institution gives a comprehensive idea to the spectator about the ancient traditions of arts and crafts of Kashi Culture. The Gallery also houses books, photographs and videos on Varanasi for research purpose. The idea is to provide A to Z information about this ancient city to the researchers under one roof.
