Survey and Documentation

Survey and Documentation are the activities carried on throughout the year. Photo and video documentation of the important places and events in and around Varanasi is being done under the guidance of Hon. Director Prof. Kamal Giri. A new project 'Living Heritage of Varanasi' commenced from August 2011, in which, the senior citizens, scholars and even outsiders having fond memories, deep insight and feelings about this Cultural Capital of India are being interviewed and documented. In addition, the survey team of Jnana-Pravaha visits various known or unknown sites of historical and cultural importance from time to time to explore their potentiality for further probing and deeper research by the new researchers. A new inscription of Emperor Ashoka at Ratanpurwa, Bhabhua district (Bihar), now termed as Basaha Inscription by the Archaeological Survey of India, was discovered and brought to light by the team in January 2009, which has been published as a monograph by the Institution.
